After 4 long years I finally will get a new airbag tomorrow in my wife’s 2008 Edge. If someone had told me at the start of this that getting a recall part replaced would take 4 years I would have said they are full of crap. I would have been wrong. I could have built a small fire with all the Ford corporate notifications. It was crazy because I would then call one of three local dealerships to see if I could get my replacement parts but always got the same answer. I was in shock when it was finally available.

Brutal. GM replaced my airbag within 2 months of notification...

And I work in a GM dealership. Back ordered safety items are usually prioritized.

My Honda and Lexus got their Takata re call within a month of each other. Both were like “Oh my gosh you could die if you don’t have your airbag replaced IMMEDIATELY”.

...w ith a new old stock part of the original defective manufacture , I presume, based on where you live? That’s what I got in my BMW quickly. It restarts the clock on it breaking down over time . Assuming that’s the case, l ook forward to another replacement with a new non-defective part...sometime.

There were only, y’know, tens of millions of them to replace. A nd then, in many cases, replace again.

4 years is a joke.
you should have demanded it be fixed quicker or a rental till it is.

But many makes decided on new suppliers. My Audi ones were engineered and tested and somewhat over a year for the first replacement. Then about a year for the other side.

The Ford ones were prioritized by region and areas they were failing. I guess they didn’t care if anyone died in Ohio.

Japanese cars are probably interested in keeping you alive as a repeat customer. Ford probably knows you’ll buy something else next time anyway (speaking as a guy born into a blue-blood, rather-push-a-Ford-than-drive-a-Chevy Ford family)
